Hi, I’m Ericka.
I’m a copywriter living and working in Kansas City. (And occasionally, I’m a wine drinker in New York City.)
Beauty Brands was copywriting bootcamp, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. From emails and in-store signage to direct mail, brochures, and everything in between, I had a hand in writing it.
Turns out, producing that much copy is great exposure therapy for a writer. I haven't been afraid of a blank page since.
This brochure is one example of the work I created to bring the Beauty Brands story to new markets.
dvm360 is a kickass publication for veterinarians and an equally kickass conference brand. Working there taught me how to market an event, cover it as a journalist, and then channel those insights into the next campaign.
Here's a sample of the copy I wrote for the event program guide.
I loved it when a Halls project came across my desk. What’s not to love about creating campaigns for a department store? Every season there are new colors, themes, and products to get excited about. And finding new ways to say “spring into style” and “fall for fashion” is always a fun challenge.*
*I know these headlines are subjectively terrible, but you get the point.
Working on JDRF's Kansas City and St. Louis Dream Galas was a reminder of the power of purpose-driven storytelling. The youth ambassadors at the heart of the campaign brought an energy, resilience, and optimism that made every piece feel meaningful.
I loved helping bring that spirit to life through a cohesive campaign that spanned invitations, web banners, and interactive event graphics, all designed to build excitement for the gala and celebrate the incredible kids it supports.
The Kansas Children's Service League came to us with a challenge: help more Kansas parents discover the resources available to them. These videos delivered, growing individual users from 6,000 to 50,000 in less than a year.
As a bonus, directing the voiceover gave me the opportunity to ask several grown men to enthusiastically exclaim, "pErIoDs?!" into a microphone. Repeatedly. A true career highlight.
Some projects stay with you long after they're over. This was one of them.
For Ronald McDonald House Charities Kansas City's Annual Appeal, I worked closely with my design partner to bring DeAngelo's story to life through print and digital fundraising materials, helping potential donors see the human impact behind every contribution.
I also learned Legos are the perfect bribe for disinterested kids on photoshoots.
As the only copywriter on Sprint's Retail Creative Team, I helped bring the brand to life across stores nationwide, collaborating closely with designers to create cohesive retail experiences.
A standout moment was helping transform KC Live! for the Chiefs Super Bowl Rally in partnership with Power & Light. It's not every day you get to contribute to a citywide celebration seen by thousands of fans.
(Thanks to Travis Kelce, ahem, The Beastie Boys for “Fight for Your Right.”)
Okay, weird thing about me. I love it when a really gritty client comes my way. An international wire rope manufacturer, for instance.
I didn’t think much about the infrastructure of bridges or how tuna gets on my plate before WireCo. Rebranding it opened my eyes to the small details that keep the world running, inspiring me to write the tagline “A World Ahead.”
At my bachelorette party, my friends would yell “mystery bag!” and everyone had to take a random shot from a brown paper bag.
So, welcome to the Mystery Bag. What’s it gonna be?
